Residents of Dorchester County face an array of hazards which can cause serious injuries, loss of life, property damage, economic hardship and privation.  Many of the hazards are increasing rapidly in frequency and severity.  In today's changing world, these hazards are not only natural disasters, but can be man-made such as terrorist incidents.

To minimize the effects hazards, can impose, the County must be prepared with plans and procedures to effectively utilize as many of its own resources as possible, and to coordinate these resources with those available elsewhere in a concerted response to emergency conditions.

The Dorchester County Emergency Management Agency is the vocal point for planning and coordinating these plans, procedures and resources in preparation for a natural or man-made disaster.
